At one time way back when, the term "hacker" was overwhelmingly positive.
Hardware Hacker was a monthly set of Don's columns that started out in Modern Electronics from January 1985 to August 1987 and were moved over the Radio Electronics from January 1988 to April 1985. Coverage included electronic and computer fundamentals presented in Don's unique and lucid technical style.
The term "hacking" once meant "pushing the limits of technical excellence". Preferably by using elegant simplicity to leave all of the supposed experts shaking their heads in stunned disbelief.
These were among the very first to "allow" an author to generate nearly all of their own press-ready and camera-ready illustrations by using the newly stupendous PostScript language.
Sadly, all those media epsilon minuses suffering from severe rectocranial inversion ( clearly both chronic and acute ) and several law enforcement
officials stupidly trashed and subverted a once proud name.
Because I got tired of calls from felon wannabes and all those men in black camped on my doorstop, I changed the column name in 1995 to TECH MUSINGS.
With the later shift to online presentations, Tech Musings got morphed into our GuruGram series and into ongoing individual subject focused tech publications.
